Passion for Design and Engineering

My passion for design comes from completing taster days in Unilever in their Packaging Designs groups in the Netherlands (Vlaardingen). These taster days gave me some insight into industrial design, design agencies and basic design activity.

Throughout high school I was interested in mechanical and aimed to understand how components work. This interest in design/engineering gave me the passion to study Product Design Engineering.

Previous Work Experience

As part of my degree, I have taken a placement year in industry to develop my skills. My placement took place at the fast moving consumer goods company Unilever known for its wide variety of well-known brands and unique designs.

My placement significantly developed me both as a professional and as an individual. More information on my placement can be found here.

Currently I am a Programme Rep for my university course and Deputy Student President for the Wolfson School of Manufacturing (for Product Design Engineering and Manufacturing Engineering Courses). I enjoy this role as it has lots of contact with people and I advise students on how to proceed with issues or escalate them if needed. I enjoy managing and assisting others, a skill which was greatly developed on my placement.

Personal Traits

Aside from my interest in academia, I am continuously developing myself as an individual through both hobbies. I have multiple interests including sketching and painting. I recently acquired a drawing tablet which I have been developing my skills with in Adobe Photoshop.

Information is Power

Information has become the new life-blood of engineering. We live in an era where high speed internet is accessible from a variety of devices. For engineering businesses to compete, we must strive to innovate by integrating new technology into manufacturing.

The 4th Industrial Revolution (industry 4.0) is on the horizon, those who do not keep up will be left behind. Having worked in the fast moving consumer goods industry for Unilever, I am excited to see how manufacturing will change over the coming decade to increase productivity.
