Internal Rotation - Sales Development Engineer

As part of the ELP, I rotated to the sales side of the industry to become a Sales Development Engineer. It is important that ELP employees at NI get a high level view of the industry to become successful. Engineering does not happen in vacuum and it is important that a clear business focus should be the drive to help customers. During this rotation, I am building on my communication and negotiation skills which I learned when working for Unilever. My responsibilities include:

  • Negotiating with customers and selling the NI brand

  • Specifying systems for testing, monitoring and control. This a customer focused role and products are chosen based on consumer needs

  •  Managing a database of contacts and updating information to work with other departments (such as marketing and account holders)

  • Working in a high complexity environment and managing multiple tasks simultainiously

Achievements and Other Roles

While working for NI I have accomplished several tasks and developed several skills including:

  • Taking an active role in the recruitment process, interviewing candidates, assessing presentations, managing group exercises and deciding on hiring candidates

  • Sitting LabVIEW courses in Core 1, Core 2, Data Acquisition and Embedded Control and Monitoring

  • Teaching several courses including Core 1, Core 2, Data Acquisition and Developing with TestStand

  • Managing several internal projects to improve the Applications Engineering department

  • Achieved a Certified LabVIEW Associate Developer (CLAD) Certification level in LabVIEW and am working toward a Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD) level.
